Dromhome Monastery was founded in 560. Adamnan, biographer of Colmcille, attended the monastery in C.610.

Dromhome Monastery is a very important site and covers an extensive area. Dromhome Monastery was a place of learning for thousands of years. It is mentioned in 'Vitae Columbae' and also in the poem 'Alra Colmcille'.
