Kinnegar Brewing was established in 2011 in a tiny pilot facility by Rick LeVert and Libby Carton. Its first beers, Limeburner and Devil's Backbone, quickly became a feature on the emerging craft beer landscape in Ireland. In 2013 the brewery expanded into a purpose-built 10HL facility tucked cleverly into the existing farmhouse environment where Libby grew up. In Spring 2017 the brewery moved to K2, a new facility on the outskirts of Letterkenny, just 24km from the Kinnegar's spiritual home in Rathmullan.
Today Kinnegar produces seven beers in its regular rotation as well as a range of once-off and recurring special brews. Visits to the brewery offer enthusiasts a complete overview of the brewing process, looking at raw materials, the brew house, fermentation, cellaring and packaging. The tour helps guests appreciate the influence that different malts, hops and yeast have on the flavour profile and general character of individual beers. Kinnegar is an operating production facility and its visitor amenities are correspondingly limited.
Kinnegar Brewing offers parking and WC in addition to a wealth of information and experience of beers and brewing. Visits and tours must be booked in advance.
