The National Transport Museum of Ireland, in Howth County Dublin, is Ireland’s only comprehensive assembly of public and commercial road transport vehicles. The oldest items date from 1883, the newest 1984, recording the Golden Age of commercial vehicles. The trip down memory lane is fun for all ages.

The National Transport Museum of Ireland is located in the Heritage Depot, Howth Demesne, Howth, Ireland. This collection is Ireland’s only comprehensive assembly of public and commercial road transport vehicles. Visitors of all ages will enjoy exploring the rare and unique vehicles. The oldest items date from 1883, the newest 1984. Many are from manufacturers long gone and some are sole survivors of once-familiar types. It is a real trip down memory lane.

Sixty out of the 100 vehicles currently in Howth are on display, and others can be inspected by prior arrangement. The collection is divided into five main standalone categories. These are Passenger, Commercial, Fire & Emergency, Military and Utility.

The Transport Museum Society of Ireland began with an unsuccessful 1949 effort to preserve three Dublin trams. Run by volunteers, the Society became a limited company in 1971 and is now a registered charity, operating to international museum standards.

Open Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays 2.00-5.00 pm and the week after Christmas 2.00-5.00pm daily.

The museum is 730m from Howth DART Station and 365m from the bus stop opposite the Castle gates. Bus No. 31 from Talbot Street.
