NSOI Season Opening: Shelley conducts Mahler’s ‘Resurrection’
Dublin City, Co. Dublin
11 September 2026
National Symphony Orchestra Ireland launches its season in spectacular fashion with this landmark concert of Mahler’s Second Symphony ‘Resurrection’, marking the first full season under the dynamic leadership of Principal Conductor Alexander Shelley

Renowned for his “precision, distinction, and beauty of gesture not seen since Lorin Maazel” (Le Devoir) Shelley conducts this towering masterpiece, a vast, five-movement epic, that journeys from darkness to transcendence.

First premiered in 1895 in Berlin, conducted by the composer with the Berlin Philharmonic, Mahler’s Second Symphony remains one of the most awe-inspiring works in the orchestral canon and will be brought vividly to life by National Symphony Orchestra Ireland, National Symphony Chorus Ireland and internationally acclaimed soloists, Tara Erraught and Sarah Connolly. Prepare to be moved, exhilarated, and utterly transformed.
