Located in Galway's Connemara region, Ballynahinch Castle and Estate is home to more than 700-acres of beautiful woodlands, gardens, lakes, and rivers. It is a perfect peaceful retreat for any visitor to County Galway. The terraced gardens overlooking the river, the Walled Garden, and 16km of trails provide the perfect environment for a quiet and reflective walk.

The Walled Garden at Ballynahinch Castle has been fully restored to its former glory including the full reconstruction of the original stone walls by local stone masons. These warm stone walls mean that there can be a wide variety of fruits, herbs and vegetables grown on site throughout the year, to be used in the Owenmore Restaurant, the Fisherman’s Pub and Ranji Room at Ballynahinch, helping to showcase the bountiful larder of Connemara in an edible tribute to this beautiful part of the world.

As visitors stroll the grounds of Ballynahinch Castle, they might encounter some of the other inhabitants of the area; among the many species of wildlife, one can expect to meet mallard, teal, foxes, deer, pigs and maybe even a herron. Every turn brings a new delight to discover, and walking maps are available at reception.

Escape along the Connemara Greenway by bicycle, experience a Shooting Masterclass with the Connemara School of Shooting and fly fishing for salmon on the famous Ballynahinch River. Additionally, there are daily guided walks, offering the perfect opportunity to fully appreciate the beauty and history of the estate.

Tips from locals

Explore the 6km Greenway route which runs through the Estate offering wonderful views away from main roads.
