A native of Listowel in County Kerry, John B. Keane was a renowned playwright, novelist and storyteller. Some of his well known classic works include Sive, Big Maggie and The Field.
Located beside Listowel Square, the statue captures John B. Keane giving a friendly greeting, just like so many of the characters in his plays. The life sized bronze statue was designed by father and son sculptors Seamus and James Connolly. They have managed to capture his true life essence, showing his wit, charm and good humour. It's not hard to imagine that you could nearly see the twinkle in his eyes. The statue is a fitting tribute to a great writer in his native town.
Take the opportunity to visit the nearby Kerry Writers' Museum which presents the works of some of Kerry's most acclaimed writers.
