Get away from it all with Valentia Harbour Tours on Skellig Coast. The amphibious Boat trips are from Cahersiveen or Valentia Island to magical uninhabited Viking Beginish Island. Walk along the strand and reflect on island life. Come Away refreshed.

A Boat Trip away from it All to Begnis Island with Valentia Harbour Tours Boat with wheels. Get away from it all with Valentia Harbour Tours on an amphibious boat (boat with wheels) to beautiful uninhabited Viking Beginish Island. The trip is suitable for all age groups. Take a boat trip from Cahersiveen or Valentia Island to magical Beginish Island that has a stunning backdrop of the Wild Atlantic Way, or just go from Cahersiveen to Valentia Island for a stroll and see the first transatlantic communication Cable station, heritage centre full of artefacts and a then have a coffee.

The trip is run by Tommy and Áine O Connell and family who have a sheep farm on Begnis Island. Tommy’s grandfather came from Beginish and he has fond memories of visiting Beginish with his father and enjoying the stories from the islanders. He has a great interest in history and the landscape. Tommy gives a talk on the Viking settlement, Church Island, the more recent inhabitants and aspects of the landscape.

Valentia harbour has the backdrop of Cahersiveen nestled under Beentee Mountain and surrounded by Ballycarberry Castle, the Ring forts and Church Island. It includes the picturesque fishing village of Knightstown where quality food and beverages are available. The harbour is sheltered and seasickness not a problem. Spot the large gannets doing their vertical dive for fish and seals basking on the rocks in front of Beginish on most tides. The roof can be open or closed so a little of the soft Kerry mist is not a problem. There is a disability friendly toilet on board.

There is great interest in the Skelligs rock which is a World Heritage site. The Skelligs is also getting huge publicity as a site for making the film Star Wars. The Skellig Coast region includes the whole peninsula adjacent to the Skelligs and includes the area from Kells to Caherdaniel.

A lot of people have come on the trip because of their great interest in the mechanics of the boat. The boat was built in 2009. with the latest safety standards. The hull is aluminium and the drive is hydraulic.

On Beginish Island walk along the beach and reflect on the Viking house, Monastic Church Island and the families who previously lived there. The overall trip is very relaxing and you come away refreshed.
