Coolcarrigan is a hidden oasis situated on the edge of the Bog of Allen, near Naas, County Kildare. It features a fantastic 6-hectare garden full of rare and unusual trees at the end of a long avenue. A small church in a woodland setting, surrounded by a moat, is available for hire for weddings. Coolcarrigan is home to a very unusual collection of trees and shrubs, many of which are not found elsewhere in Ireland. Over the years, the grounds have been visited by many international gardening groups and dendrologists.
Paths meander through the garden and create surprises and vistas around every corner. The arboretum was extended by an additional 2.5 hectares in 2003 with many new rarities, and a special wild flower meadow. It is interesting to watch it develop and become an additional interest to the garden. The garden is very accessible for the disabled and one motorised buggy can be made available if requested. Additionally, group tours are welcome at other times by appointment and if required, lunches or teas can be provided in the house.
Spring is a great time to visit, especially May for spectacular displays.
