Garvan de Bruir is a fine craftsman in leather. Visitors are welcome to DE BRUIR - Leather Atelier to see his work. Hand tools and sewing machines are all part of the traditional crafting process.
DE BRUIR - Leather Atelier designs and crafts leather bags in Kildare Town, the equestrian heartland of Ireland. The bags use similar robust leathers and construction techniques as local saddle and bridle makers. All designs are handmade by Garvan de Bruir.
The process begins with selecting the leather from large hides, through to machine and hand stitching as the bags begin to take shape. The vintage sewing machines are core to each bag's construction and a satisfying feature of the workshop, while prototypes and mock ups demonstrate the evolution of various designs.
Like many Irish craftspeople, Garvan de Bruir combines the tradition of craft excellence with contemporary and functional design.
There is also a gift shop at the workshop.
