Kilkenny Library Local Studies aims to provide a quality, accessible service which enhances the lives of the communities of Kilkenny, through the provision of a knowledge resource, promoting imagination, lifelong learning and culture.

Kilkenny Library Local Studies is a reference and research service dedicated to preserving and enhancing the collective memory of Kilkenny City and county. It offers access to the history and heritage of County Kilkenny, and collects, catalogues and preserves all types of Kilkenny related material.

Located at John’s Green House, John’s Green, the department holds a wide range of material on the history, geography, antiquities, archaeology, folklore and culture of Kilkenny City and county. Its collection consists of books, journals, newspapers, photographs, audio visual material, manuscripts, maps, and microfilm.

The Local Studies department is visited by those seeking local history information and those seeking guidance for genealogical research. It is accessible online or to members of the public during office hours.
