MacDonagh Junction is the largest shopping centre in the South East with 40 retailers and 6 food outlets. It incorporates Starbucks, H & M,K- Bowl and TK Maxx in a beautifully restored famine workhouse and railway buildings.

MacDonagh Junction is the largest shopping centre in the south east. Located in the heart of Kilkenny City beside the train station, it is home to many of the top high street brands such as, Dunne’s, Next, River Island, TK Maxx, Carraig Donn, Jack & Jones, Only, Name It, Mexx, Pamela Scott, Champion Sports, Field’s Jewellers, Eason, K-Bowl and H&M. MacDonagh Junction is also home to Boots pharmacy, Art it Drop in studio, Carphone Warehouse, Peter Mark Hairstylists, Boston Barber, Flair Beauty Boutique, 3 Store, Claire’s accessories, Sky TV services, The Sweet Factory, Fructis Juice Bar, St Canices Credit Union and the Foroige Drum Youth Centre.

Services in the Centre include covered or outdoor parking, An Post postal kiosk, ATM, Free Wi-Fi at Workhouse Square, free wheelchair and buggy service as well as battery start in the car parks. The Centre has modern and spacious baby changing areas and public toilet facilities and is completely accessible for all users. The car park has spaces for 1,100 cars and costs €2 for 3 hours. Dunnes offer the first hour free when you spend €10. The main eating area is known as The Workhouse Square. This is a covered outdoor space made up from the beautifully restored former Famine Workhouse buildings with access from the main street via the Hebron Road and also from the shopping mall itself. The restaurants include Starbucks, The Courtyard Bar & Grill, Quigleys, Costa Coffee and O’Brien’s Sandwich Bar & Bagel Factory. Eddie Rockets can be found at the main entrance to the Centre.

The heritage and historical aspects of the restored workhouse buildings, the renovated railway buildings, the famine memorial garden and the Kilkenny time capsule, are unique to MacDonagh Junction, adding further to Kilkenny’s rich historical legacy. These aspects are detailed and laid out on a display in Workhouse Square beside Starbucks. For families and children there is a free play area beside HB Sweet Factory and K-Bowl is the ten pin bowling centre located at the front of the premises.
