River Nore
Kilkenny City, Co. Kilkenny
There’s lots to do on the River Nore, which flows through Tipperary, Laois, Kilkenny and Waterford. Enjoy a riverbank walk, book a fishing lesson or visit the ruins of 13th century Grennan Castle.

The tranquil River Nore is one of the Three Sister Rivers, meeting the River Suir and River Barrow to form Waterford Harbour. The Nore’s source is the Devil’s Bit Mountain in Tipperary, and legend has it that the devil took a bite out of this mountain, spat it out and formed the rock of Cashel.

Experience angling on the River Nore with a lesson at Mount Juliet Estate in Kilkenny. The estate also features a trail where you can ramble through beautifully maintained rose, herb and walled gardens.

Hire a kayak from Go with the Flow River Adventures and paddle your way along the River Nore. If you’d rather stay on dry land, take the 10km walking trail from Thomastown to Inistioge. Admire the colourful flora and fauna and see the ruins of Grennan Castle in Kilkenny.
