West Limerick preserves many of Ireland's surviving spacious medieval halls. Desmond Castle, the vaulted lower chamber and adjoining tower were all constructed during the 15th century. Its restored medieval features include and oak musicians' gallery and a limestone hooded fireplace.
It can be found in Newcastle West town centre, between Limerick city and Killarney, off N21. Access is by guided tours only and there is a maximum of 15 people per tour.
There is partial access for people with disabilities and there are toilet facilities and a public car park on site.
