The O’Connell Monument in Limerick City was the first outdoor public statue of influential Irish politician Daniel O’Connell, known as The Liberator, to be erected in Ireland.
Surrounded by impressive Georgian buildings, the O’Connell Monument in Limerick City honours one of Ireland’s most important politicians from the 19th century.
The bronze statue was designed by John Hogan and shows Daniel O’Connell dressed in a Roman toga, with more modern clothing for his time underneath. In his left hand he holds the text of the "Act of Catholic Emancipation", one of his great political achievements.
