The sculptures reflect on elements of his own cultural and personal histories from growing up in Ireland in the 1960’s, to living in two countries and asking the question ‘where is home’ with reference to emigration, adoption, memory, and landscape.
The sculptures in this exhibition are forged, hammered, welded and fabricated in different types of metal with repeated forms; including ladders, boulders, chairs, boats, houses, shovels and pick axes.
Over the last twenty-five years, Denis has produced site-specific Public Art sculptures that can be seen around Ireland and in the UK; these have included works installed in Andover, Ballyshannon, Belfast, Cardiff, Cork, Clonmel, Dundalk, Leicester, Liverpool, Newtownstewart and Waterford.
