Achill Island - Dooagh Loop
Acaill, Co. Mayo
Free to visit
Leave the world behind, for an afternoon at least, on a salt-aired Achill Island loop. This four-kilometre Dooagh walk covers rich bogland, surfaced roadways, rivers and streams. An easy undertaking for any level of walker, it’s the ideal introduction to Ireland’s largest island.

Perched off the coast of marvellous County Mayo, once you cross the bridge from the Currane Peninsula, Achill Island extends a welcome like no other.

The island is renowned for its breathtaking Minaun and Craughaun cliffs, beautiful Blue Flag beaches and wonderfully diverse terrain.

Explore the pretty village of Dooagh, with its curious beach known for performing a disappearing act after stormy weather, and its surroundings on this gentle looped route.

Showcasing plenty of Achill’s dramatic scenery and inviting seascapes, this easy walk crosses streams and sandy surfaces, skirts the banks of the Owenavalley and Tenregee rivers and traverses spongy bogland too.
