Carrowholly Stables & Trekking Centre is located on the beautiful west coast of Ireland in County Mayo on the Wild Atlantic Way, and is merely two miles from the starting point of the Great Western Greenway which is a 42km traffic free cycling and walking route.
Carrowholly Stables & Trekking Centre offer pony camps, beach and trail rides suitable for all levels of riders from the beginner to the more accomplished horse riding enthusiasts. They have a wide range of horses and ponies from 11hh to 17hh to suit all abilities. The excitement for riders trekking along the open strands of Clew Bay is the main attraction of Carrowholly Stables. An alternative trek takes the rider across open terrain to Rose Hill Castle formerly owned by Sir Samuel O Malley, a descendant of the infamous seafaring pirate queen Grainuaile. Here an unsurpassed view of Clew Bay and the offshore islands is an unforgettable experience.
The stables are owned and managed by the Kelly family. Liam Kelly, who is passionate about his horses and ponies, is constantly on the prowl to ensure that his animals are happy and in top shape. His excellent grass management skills are evident as the horses and ponies graze freely in the green pastures. Kind temperament and dependability are his priorities when it comes to choosing horses for his customers.
On arriving at the stables riders will be met and greeted by Kitty Kelly who oversees the day to day activities. She will provide answers to all queries and ensure that visitors will have an enjoyable horse riding experience. Roisin, Helena and Laoise are the three horse loving daughters. They are more than willing to share their expertise and help out with riders and horses. Joe is the guide. He is forever, calm, patient and kind. Rest assured that visitors will be well looked after as Joe leads them out on their trek.
