Westport Town Hall Theatre reopened its doors to the public in June 2015. This heritage building has undergone a significant redevelopment that has delivered a fully functional, 225-seater, modern equipped theatre with both fixed and retractable seating, flat floor level stage complete with pit-lift, flying and rigging system, not to mention extensive sound and lighting along with fully serviced dressing rooms, meeting rooms, bar, extensive exhibition space and reception area. The venue is nestled in the heart of Westport's Octagon and its mission is to provide a unique platform for all spheres of the arts and community events for locals and visitors to the town.
The Westport Theatre provides the most amenable space for key festivals such as the Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival, the Rolling Sun Book Festival, The Gathering for Patrick Festival, Mayo Day Festivities, Spraoi na Nollag, The Festival of Chamber Music and Westport Arts Festival to name but a few. In the case of the Westport Arts Festival, the Town Hall was instrumental on many levels in helping ensure that the Arts Festival decreased its long-standing financial deficit considerably. Much of the services provided by the town hall for these events were provided voluntarily to encourage community participation and support the festivals and their events.
