Join author, broadcaster and historian Kieran Devaney for a short walk on our far western shore through the seafaring and literary heritage of our village. e will explore the ruins of Elsinore House, the childhood home of the poet W.B. Yeats, meet Annie on the shore and her lover the Metal Man. Kieran will show you the strand where Yeats first found the faeries and the old watch house painted by brother the poet's brother Jack. You'll hear stories of rum smugglers, shipwrecks, shantymen, the ghosts of long gone deep sea sailors, tales of Oyster and Coney Island, Ben Bulben and Knocknarea and discover the grim secrets of the bride in the brandy barrel and the body buried at Dead Man's Point. To toast your visit, you'll finish your tour at a pub which has become a legend in Ireland's maritime history where you will have the opportunity to hear a salty yarn of the sea over a glass or two of the black stuff.
Tours start daily in the bar of Yeats Country Hotel at 2:00pm and 5:00pm, or at your leisure, last around and hour and cost €10 per person. There is no charge for children.
