Blackwater Way - Avondhu
Clogheen, Co. Tipperary
Free to visit
Following the valley of the River Blackwater, this richly varied 94km route unfolds through the stunningly scenic counties of Tipperary and Cork.

This Avondhu leg of the picturesque Blackwater Way takes six days to complete and cuts through some idyllic sections of the Cork and Tipperary landscape.

Starting in the County Tipperary village of Clogheen, about half of this linear trail is local road with mountain flanks, forest track, bog roads, moorland and field paths making up the rest. Naturally, many of the off-road sections can be muddy in wet weather.

Hardest between Clogheen, Hare’s Gap and Araglin, the remainder of this peaceful route is relatively easy and enjoyable underfoot.

When it’s time for rest and refreshment, along the way you’ll find the town of Fermoy and the villages of Kilworth, Ballynamona and the trail’s end point, Bweeng, County Cork.

With incredible views all along the route, the River Blackwater itself looks particularly beautiful as you leave Fermoy.
