Clonmel Racecourse, in County Tipperary, is a place of excitement, entertainment and unparalleled natural beauty. It is recognised as a demanding National Hunt course with a stiff uphill climb, followed by a gradual downhill run, with an uphill finish. It is a right handed track of one and a quarter miles. All points in the enclosure have exceptional views of the course. An abundance of mature trees and shrubs enhance the aesthetic quality of the 160 acre racecourse environment.
Every season has its own charms here, from the warm summer meets of sun and style, to winter’s Clonmel Oil Chase, a showpiece of champions and the promise of a hot port at the end of the day.
The racing is taken seriously and has featured some of the biggest names in the industry, such as the celebrated Beef or Salmon, Danoli, and the ever popular Doran's Pride. It is not uncommon to have in excess of 120 horses running at any one meeting.
The catchment area of the racecourse includes Cork, Waterford, Kilkenny and Limerick. Waterford Airport is only 56km away, while both Cork and Shannon Airports are just over a 100km journey from the racecourse. It is advised that you arrive 1.5 hours before the start of a race.
