Situated within the old Courthouse Building in the heart of Lismore town, Lismore Heritage Centre was opened in 1992 to share insights into Lismore’s formidable history and heritage.

Located at the foot of the picturesque Knockmealdown Mountains, Lismore is well known for Lismore Castle which dates back to 1185 and was once the home of the famous Broadway performer Adele Astaire and also Kathleen Kennedy, sister of John F. Kennedy. The inside of this private residence can only be viewed through the Lismore Castle Experience. There are a selection of immersive tours available.

Lismore Castle Experience 360

Your guide will bring you through the curtain where you will be immersed in the history of Lismore Castle using modern day technology. The inside of the castle is visible as it looks today using 360 imagery accompanied with stories told by historic characters from the past. A local guide will be on hand to answer any questions the group may have.

Lismore Castle Experience – See inside the castle in virtual reality

On this tour visitors are given a tablet on which the history of the objects in the room will be visible by holding the device up to a trigger on the wall. Discover how priceless artefacts were secreted away and forgotten about for 200 years.

You will then be taken through the Cavendish blue door into the virtual reality room. Here there will be a choice to either put on a headset or watch the floor to ceiling images of the rooms inside Lismore Castle. Robert Boyle is the guide who will tell the story of those who came before and after him to live in the castle.

Lismore Guided Town Tour

Through a heritage guide, visitors are brought right into the heart of the history, culture and heritage of this jewel of a town in County Waterford. The walk begins at Lismore Heritage Centre 10 minutes before tour departure time and ends by Saint Carthage’s Cathedral.

Visitors will hear about Lismore’s time as the greatest monastic school of the 18th century, the Viking invasions in Lismore and Lismore’s 12th century roundhill Norman settlement. Visit Saint Carthage’s Cathedral with its medieval tombs, stone carvings and fine stained glass windows.

Robert Boyle Escape Room

Robert Boyle has been trying to solve many of the most puzzling scientific questions of the 17th century. Robert Boyle’s nemesis, the fraud, Vincenzo Falcone believes that Boyle has discovered a mysterious ingredient which can turn base metals into gold and give humans the gift of immortality.

Falcone knows the Boyle is away on business in the city today and Falcone will arrive in 60 minutes to search Boyle’s study for his secret alchemy box. The challenge is to find the box before Falcone gets there by discovering clues and cracking codes before your sixty minutes are up.

The Robert Boyle Escape Room is scheduled for 14:00, however if this time is not suitable please call on 058-54975 to discuss another time.
