Located in the heart of County Waterford and open all year, Mount Congreve Gardens are a haven for plant and history lovers alike, as well as for those simply looking to relax in nature.

Boasting one of the largest private collections of plants globally, the entire collection features plants from every continent. Mount Congreve House, home to six generations of Congreves, was built in 1760 by the celebrated local architect John Roberts. Inspired by Mr Lionel de Rothschild’s exceptional garden at Exbury in Hampshire, works began on Mount Congreve's garden in the 1950s by garden director Herman Dool. Ambrose Congreve's passion for his spectacular garden is still evident today.

To make the most of your visit to Mount Congreve House, take a guided tour where you will enter the gardens through the house, as the Congreves once did. Afterwards, you can relax in the Stables Café where you will be served only the freshest of local produce, prepared and cooked daily.

Step back in time and experience afternoon tea with an old world charm in the beautifully restored Tack Room. Surrounded by gardens, trees, birds and wildlife, the afternoon tea is served on three tier cake stands with crisp white linen, Irish silverware and fine bone china.

For those looking to hold an unforgettable event, Mount Congreve Gardens cater for everything, from intimate dining to grand banqueting. Memorable occasions can be enjoyed in both the Library Room and the large Drawing Room, also known as the Chinese Room due to its exquisite hand painted wallpaper.

No visit to Mount Congreve Gardens is complete without a visit to the Secret Garden gift shop. It offers a range of gift ideas inspired by the beauty of nature and the gardens. Products include handmade soaps, beeswax candles and much more. There really is something for everyone.

Mount Congreve Gardens are committed to creating a sustainable garden environment and welcome visitors of all ages, abilities and cultures.

Mount Congreve Gardens are easily accessible by car from the N25, or directly from the Waterford Greenway by foot or bike.
