Sean Egan Art Glass in Waterford City, features copper wheel engraved crystalware made by craftsman Sean. With 35 years of experience in crystal art, Sean Egan began his apprenticeship as a cutter with Waterford Crystal in 1974. Having qualified and worked as a cutter for a number of years, he started his apprenticeship in 1986, a further five years training as an engraver.
Since Waterford Crystal closed in January 2009, Sean opened his own business at the Kite Studios, 11 Henrrietta Street, Waterford city. All artwork is designed by Sean and hand-engraved. Sean specialises in awards, sports trophies and presentation pieces.
Sean has worked on many famous trophies such as The Players Championship (golf), Cricket World Cup trophy, Hockenheim Grand Prix trophy and the Volvo Ocean Race. He also specialises in depicting wildlife scenes and marine life.
In 2006 whilst working in Waterford Crystal he was asked to create a piece for a commemorative piece for 9/11. The main piece depicting five New York workers carrying Father Judge, is a memorial to the 343 New York Police Department members who lost their lives. This sculpture took 200 hours to create.
He was commissioned to design and engrave a bowl for the President of the United States on behalf of the Taoiseach, to commemorate Saint Patrick's Day 2013.
