On the Annalee River upstream of Cootehill, the river is recovering and holds some nice trout, especially in the vicinity of Knappagh. From Ballyhaise upstream to Ballinallen Bridge, Cavan Angling Club have carried out bank clearance and development and stock the river annually.

Upstream from Ballinallen Bridge, Bunnoe Angling Club have carried out similar work on the Annalee River and its tributary, the Bunnoe River. Fly hatches have recovered well and trout of up to 3lbs have been caught on the River Annalee.
