Gartan Outdoor Education and Training Centre consists of two main buildings. The main Centre is home to all the residential facilities. The West Wing consists of 10 rooms, with full ensuite facilities, all immediately overlooking Gartan Lough with superb views of the nearby Derryveagh Mountains. The East Wing houses bright, spacious hostel style accommodation. Each wing has its own dining room, the West dining room opening to a patio by the lake. The main building also houses a central stone built, clear roofed courtyard, recreation rooms, indoor climbing wall, changing rooms and excellent showering facilities, equipment stores, and offices.
WiFi is available, as is a wall map of all of Donegal to assist in planning your adventures. The beautiful Boathouse, heated solely by wood pellet, consists of a main room, suitable for small conferences and events including weddings immediately overlooks Gartan Lough. With a wide slipway to the lake, this building also houses changing rooms and showers, equipment stores, a downstairs archery room. The building is full of light, space and warmth, and can operate independently of the main building.
The Colmcille Heritage Centre, with its interpretive exhibition featuring saint Colmcille, Patriarch of the Irish Monasticism and Scottish Church, is also on our Estate, and is well worth a visit if you have an interest in this most historic area of Gartan and Derryveagh.
We're 20 minutes drive from the coast. The renovated main premises and the beautiful Boathouse are built of wood and stone, and sit easily in this landscape.
