Inishbofin Hostel is a wonderful place to stay while relaxing on the beautiful island of the same name, which is located just 11km off the coast of Galway and accessible by ferry from Cleggan. The modern hostel was originally a traditional farmhouse, and retains the charm and character of the old building.
The property has 50 beds in small dorms, private and family rooms. There is a self-catering kitchen, large dining area, library, bicycle shed, washing/drying facilities, central heating and free showers. From the winter garden, guests can take in spectacular views of the Connemara mountains and coastline.
While at Inishbofin, travellers can enjoy many scenic walking routes and view flora and fauna, including the grey and common seals. There are opportunities for fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving and hill climbing. Activities offered on the island now include the following: paddle boarding; canoeing; kayaking; archery; sailing; guided archaeological/historical walks; shore fishing; rock fishing. From early April to August guests can hear the corncrake. Inishbofin is one of the few places in Ireland where this now rare bird nests annually.
Visitors also won’t want to miss the lively music scene of the island, which has its own Ceilí band.
