Rooster Potato Day, hosted at the Goodly Barrow Café and Museum, celebrates Carlow as the birthplace of one of Ireland’s most iconic crops – the Rooster Potato. First developed locally at Teagasc Oak Park on the outskirts of Carlow Town, it has become a staple of Irish kitchens, loved for its quality, flavour and versatility. To carry some inspiration home, visitors can pick up a small recipe booklet packed with ideas.
But Rooster Potato Day is more than a celebration of local produce – it’s also an opportunity to make a difference. Funds raised on the day, after basic running costs, will support the Palestinian Red Crescent in its emergency response to the war and the famine in Gaza.
