Burren Mountain Tours
More from visitors like you
Driving tour for small groups on the old herdsman’s mountain track, on private land, away from the main tourist routes, to the centre of the Burren karst landscape, on the Wild Atlantic Way.

90 minute driving experience over a private mountain in the Burren where you learn what is it like to live and farm in the Burren from a local family. Travel the route taken by the herdsmen of long ago to bring their cattle to the mountain for the winter.

The views of the Clare coastline along the Wild Atlantic Way are breath taking. From the western mountain edge you will have views of Galway Bay, the Aran Islands and Connemara. Beneath you observe the well preserved 16th century tower house, Gleninagh Castle. Travelling inland towards the centre of the mountain observe the vast expanse of limestone paving. Experience the splendid isolation of the Burren, far from the crowded tourist spots below.

There are relics everywhere of mountain life thousands of year ago, such as forts, turf tiles and hand built stone walls. Travel in comfort while learning about the archaeology, history, habitat and farming in the Burren mountain from the people who now farm it. From early spring the mountain is like a flower garden and you will learn about the exotic mix of flowers that thrive here from different habitats and climate zones. Visitors will see the Burren from aspects previously reserved for locals.

This experience gives universal access to the Burren highlands, previously reserved for those with the ability to walk such strenuous routes. It is ideal for those who may not have the time or physical ability to cover this track on foot and for families with very young children who would not suit these long treks. The tour will interest nature lovers, those looking for something different and off the beaten path.

Suitable for small groups only up to 11 at one time. Tailored tours and educations tours are made by appointment. Telephone for tour rates. The starting point is the farmyard just north of the entrance to Fanore beach and is well sign posted.

There is also the choice of a 2 hour driving and walking tour. Participants are driven to the top of the mountain and taken on a guided walking tour around the mountain on relatively flat terrain.

Authentic experience with locals.

The entire experience takes place on a private mountain farm travelling through a working farm with cows, horses, alpacas, goats etc.

Meet & greet and our herd of fluffy alpacas.

Breathtaking scenery overlooking Galway Bay and the Wild Atlantic Way.

See the exotic mix of Burren flowers up close.

Take in examples of limestone paving – previously only seen by locals.

Complimentary car parking provided.
