18 April 2026 was a landmark date in Irish genealogy with the release of the 1926 Census of the Irish Free State, the first comprehensive snapshot of Ireland after independence, which sparked a major surge in genealogical research.
To mark this historic event, Kilrush & District Historical Society will host the Kilrush Genealogy Conference 2026: From the Great Famine to the 1926 Census, featuring a distinguished line-up of speakers.
Experienced genealogists will also provide one-to-one consultations for attendees. Add-ons include a Loop Head bus tour, a visit to Scattery Island, and a conference dinner. Free events include a historical walking tour of Kilrush and a traditional music seisiún.
Anyone with Irish ancestors is welcome.
