Castletownbere Market is a seasonal market that becomes weekly over the summer months. The first Thursday of each month is the traditional market day which draws a host of food stalls, bric-a-brac, carpets, tools, books, plants, live poultry, fruit, baked goods and much more. The market comes alive over the summer months with visitors and locals descending from the hills for the liveliest market in the area.

Castletownbere is the main town on the Beara Peninsula, a busy port and centre for walking. It is on the south side of the peninsula and surrounded by mountains and sea. Castletownbere is the largest white fishing port in Ireland and is second to Sydney, Australia, as the safest natural harbour in the world.
