Alison Ospina of Green Wood Chairs has been teaching chair making courses for over 25 years. The courses are aimed at all levels of experience, from seasoned woodworkers to those who have never sawed, sanded or hammered before.
Alison has written several books on the art and skill involved with chair making. From sheepskin footstools, rocking chairs with solid elm seats, to leather seated fireside chairs, Alison creates a wide range of furniture, including a diminutive chair for children. Courses can be one or three days duration, and lunch, refreshments and all materials are included. All chairs are made from eco friendly coppiced hazel cut from woodlands near Kealkil and Skibbereen in County Cork.
Alison is happy to work to commission and often has a range of chairs, stools and small tables for sale from the Green Wood Chairs studio. The studio is not generally open to public except for courses, but visits are welcome if arranged in advance.
