‘Róisín’ – Elinor O’Donovan: Sample-Studios Spike Island Summer Resident Film Screening at Triskel Arts Centre, 6 Oct. Preview of a 'desktop documentary' on Charlotte Grace O’Brien; writer, activist and plant collector. Followed by director Q&A.
This preview of Elinor O'Donovan's new film takes place in advance of her exhibition of the same name, which opens in Sample-Studios Gallery: The Lord Mayor’s Pavilion on 10 Oct, following the Sample-Studios Spike Island Summer Residency 2026.
Róisín explores the life of Charlotte Grace O’Brien (1845–1909), O’Donovan’s great-great-great-great aunt. O’Brien was a writer, activist and plant collector who worked on behalf of Irish women emigrating to the US in the late 1800s.
The film uses a voice-over based on a script written by O’Donovan, illustrated by browser windows.
Screening followed by a Q&A.
Sample-Studios Spike Island Summer Residency is done in partnership with Spike Island and Sirius Arts Centre. Supported by the Arts Council.
