The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland, is an Irish registered charity working to improve conditions for donkeys and mules. The Sanctuary is set in the beautiful rolling countryside of County Cork just outside the village of Liscarroll.
The Donkey Sanctuary have taken in donkeys rescued from all parts of the country. Every donkey taken into the Sanctuary is guaranteed a life of loving care. The Donkey Sanctuary has a dedicated team of regional and area welfare officers throughout the UK and Ireland who investigate reports of cruelty to or neglect of donkeys, quickly and efficiently.
The Donkey Sanctuary feels that it is vital to educate the public about donkey welfare, and the proper way to care for donkeys in order to help stop cruelty and neglect. In order to facilitate this, the Sanctuary encourages visitors and has a dedicated team of staff that go out to schools, clubs and different groups throughout Ireland to talk to people about the Sanctuary and their work. The Donkey Sanctuary runs basic donkey care courses which are available to all existing or potential donkey owners. The courses are run on an ad-hoc basis either at the Sanctuary or around the country at one of the established foster homes. There are no set charges for training courses, but voluntary donations are always gratefully received.
The Donkey Sanctuary welcomes group visits as the donkeys love the added fuss and attention they receive. However, advance notice of larger parties is requested. The Donkey Sanctuary totally relies on the generosity of the public and contributions in one of their collection boxes will be most gratefully received. Online donation facilities are also now available on the Donkey Sanctuary Ireland website.
Facilities include a visitor information centre with tea/coffee machine, picnic area as well as disabled access and toilet. Tours can be arranged with advance notice.
