A Beethoven symphony on an awesome scale, an enchanting Ravel fantasy for a lost age of refinement, and the world premiere of Trembling Earth for cello and orchestra by The National guitarist and leading composer Bryce Dessner, recent NCH Artist-in-Residence.
Written for the 'unrivalled' (Le Figaro) Anastasia Kobekina, Dessner describes his concerto as 'a reflection on the natural world and the way the mountains, rivers, oceans and forests bear witness to human calamity yet endure.' Longtime collaborator André de Ridder, 'one of the world's most daring conductors' (Wall Street Journal), conducts from Ravel's watercolour-delicate Pavane to Beethoven's grandiose Eroica.
