Culture Club: William Chambers and the establishment of Charlemont House
Dublin City, Co. Dublin
19 August 2025
Free to visit
Join Tony Suttle in an exploration of Charlemont House, the building that houses the Hugh Lane Gallery today.

Our Culture Clubs are a great way to explore art in a stimulating and friendly environment.

This illustrated talk will highlight the Earl of Charlemont and his commissioning of Willaim Chambers to build Charlemont House as well as the Casino at Marino. The evolution of the house will be uncovered, from overlooking the original Pleasure Gardens in the square, through its use as Civil Service offices, to the building of the galleries in the original back garden, in the 1930s and then on to the addition of the White Cube-style galleries in the 1990s.

Free, advance booking required.

Readers are advised to check with the venue before relying on the details published here.
