Ireland and Empire, its Legacy on the Role of Irish Museums and Communities
Dublin City, Co. Dublin
28 May 2025
Free to visit
Join Prof Jane Ohlmeyer, Erasmus Smith’s Professor of Modern History (1762), Trinity College Dublin for an online talk on Ireland and Empire, its Legacy on the Role of Irish Museums and Communities.

Ireland may have been England’s first colony, but it also formed an integral part of the imperial system and people from Ireland served as colonists and as active imperialists. Drawing on a wide variety of sources, especially those relating to material culture and collecting, Dr Ohlmeyer will explore how empire is remembered and its legacy for our museums and communities.

This talk marks International Museum Day and responds to this year’s theme of ‘The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities.’

Online only via Zoom, registration required.
