The Cong to Galway Sailing Race takes place on Saturday, June 28th, following a 30-nautical-mile route from Lisloughrey Pier near Cong to Galway City. First held in 1882, it’s Europe’s oldest inland sailing race. Starting in the shadow of Ashford Castle, the course travels the full length of Lough Corrib with a break at Kilbeg before continuing through the river to the finish at Corrib Village.
A mix of modern cruisers and traditional Galway Hookers take part, making it a unique celebration of competition and maritime heritage. Organised by Galway’s local sailing clubs, it’s a must-see event for anyone interested in sailing or history.
