Established nearly 40 years ago by the O’Sullivan family, the Tankard Bar and Seafood Restaurant is a family run business with a great reputation, especially for seafood. Enjoy truly amazing views right on the waters edge of Tralee Bay, in County Kerry. It is rare that you can have a pint and food with such dramatic scenery. Although there are distinct areas for more formal dining, the same menu is offered throughout this establishment. The offerings boast of locally sourced produce that are both imaginative and very reasonably priced. The location of this restaurant means that seafood is undoubtedly at the centre of the menu, with the majority of it sourced through the owners’ connections with the local fishing community.
One of the most popular dishes is the seafood mornay, a selection of Salmon, Hake, Prawn, Scallop, Crab Claws and Mussels served in a seafood cheese sauce and a gratinated crust. Other offerings have a more modern approach, offering customers staggering variety, such as the Wild Atlantic Way Seafood Platter: A sharing plate for two with crispy battered hake and mushy peas, deep fried calamari, fenit hand cut chips, Tralee Bay seafood chowder, crab claws in a garlic cream and steamed Cromane mussels.
All desserts are made in house which emphasises the best of local ingredients. An advance reservation is always worthwhile to get the best sea view tables available. For a real treat ask for the specials board which offers a memorable gastronomic experience for a fraction of the normal prices. Some of these specials include: John Dory, Black Sole, Tuna, Monkfish, Rack of Kerry Mountain Lamb and Cork Buffalo Steaks.
