Horses are a very valuable commodity and it is vital that all foals born in Ireland (including Northern Ireland), along with all resident stallions and mares are easily identifiable under a single register. Weatherbys Ireland GSB is the approved Thoroughbred Stud Book Authority under Irish and EU law, and are Keepers of the General Stud Book. Weatherbys Ireland was founded in 1973, and has been an integral part of the country’s bloodstock scene ever since.
Weatherbys Ireland GSB is a not for profit business. Any profits that are made are returned to the Irish breeding industry through breeders’ prizes, sponsorship and charitable donations. They work closely with the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders' Association. Weatherbys Ireland also has its own parentage testing laboratory based at the Irish Equine Centre. This laboratory, through its DNA parentage testing service, ensures the integrity of the Irish breeding industry, thereby maintaining and consolidating confidence in the Irish Thoroughbred export trade.
