Hidden gem
Clare Island Whiskey, County Mayo, provides immersive day long experiences to Clare Island. Follow where the spirit takes you as you taste Clare Island Whiskey, explore Granuaile’s Castle, a 12th century abbey and stunning scenery from the lighthouse. Dine on a seafood feast, listen to lively music, and hear stories of life on the island.

Let Clare Island Whiskey, County Mayo, take you over the fearsome Atlantic from Ireland’s west coast to Clare Island, a storied place heavy with history and myth. Sheltered within the harbour walls is a boat named The Dolphin, and within her hull she holds rare casks of Clare Island Whiskey. Their day long experience immerses you in the culture and heritage of the island and introduce you to their unique whiskey.

The traditions of seamanship and small batch whiskey distilling combine in this pioneering project. The first release Clare Island Single Malt Spirit is aged at sea for a minimum of three years, with the liquor in a gentle state of perpetual motion against Kentucky bourbon barrels, opening up an ocean of possibilities in flavour profile and complexity.

You will receive a coin by post, which is presented to access O’Grady’s Ferry at Roonagh Pier. Meet your guide for reception, refreshments and canapès at Granuaile Castle. Then enjoy guided, interpretive walks through the island landscape, with visits to Granuaile’s Castle and the 12th century Cistercian Abbey. You will be taken from the abbey to the lighthouse, overlooking stunning cliffs, for your whiskey tasting. Then you will travel to Sailor’s Bar to enjoy a Clare Island seafood feast along with music, song, stories and fun.

Choose from The Crew Experience or the Captain's Experience. At the end of the Captain's Experience, guests are presented with their own numbered bottle of Clare Island Whiskey in a custom sea chest, after a visit to The Dolphin where the whiskey is aged.
