Golden Strand, Achill Island can be found approximately 3kms east of Dugort Village on Achill Island. It is also known as Barnyagappul Strand, meaning gap of the horses. Golden Strand, Achill Island is an exposed shore with a sandy substrate. The upper shore consists of large pebbles with gently sloping sand dunes along the headlands.
It is a popular beach for swimming, walking, surfing, sailing, canoeing, water skiing, jet skiing, scuba diving, snorkelling and fishing. The beach also holds a variety of native plants and wildlife.
It is lifeguarded during the bathing season every summer from June to August. Toilets and disabled access to the beach are provided. More local information can be found on the notice boards located at the beach.
