Left Bank Bistro
Athlone, Co. Westmeath
The Left Bank Bistro was established in 1995. A modern restaurant situated in the heart of old Athlone just a stone's throw from the Athlone Lock on the River Shannon, it boasts views of the Norman castle and its ancient architecture.

The Left Bank Bistro was recently named a 2015 Fodor’s Choice property by Fodor’s Travel. To quote from Fodor's, "...each year our expert team of writers and editors designates an exclusive list of restaurants and hotels as the best of the best in their region."

The food at Left Bank is exciting and innovative, with many dishes the long-standing favourites of local customers. Choose from their lunch, dinner, dessert, and fish menus, as well as the appetising early bird menu. Gluten-free customers are also catered for.

Sink your teeth into a fresh bruschetta of melted brie with apple and cranberry compote, be warmed by oven-roasted rack of Irish lamb with celeriac gratin topped with mint dressing, or indulge in the decadent Mississippi mud pie – at Left Bank Bistro, you'll be taken on a food journey to mouthwatering bliss and beyond!

Why not work up an appetite before your visit with an outdoor activity at the nearby River Shannon or Lough Ree? There are many superb golf courses, great horse riding opportunities, country walks, and historical attractions both in Athlone itself and in the surrounding area.

The Left Bank's lively neighbourhood, on the west side of the Shannon, has been transformed in recent years, restored to its former glory. Embracing traditional architecture, the atmosphere is ambient amid sympathetic surroundings. Ireland's oldest public house, Sean's Bar, is just next door, as are many top boutiques, antique shops, old book shops, and bookbinders.
