Avondale House in Rathdrum was the birthplace and home of Charles Stewart Parnell (1846-1891) one of the greatest political leaders in Irish history. The Parnell National Memorial Park contains walks, restful seating areas, ponds and a beautiful bronze statue of Parnell and the Feagh McHugh O'Byrne Commemorative Stone. Since its creation the Memorial park has proved to be an outstanding tourist amenity.

You can also visit and tour the beautiful Georgian House, enjoy an audio-visual presentation and walk through the magnificent forest park of over 500 acres. The beautiful Georgian Avondale House, designed by James Wyatt and built in 1777, contains fine plasterwork and many original pieces of furniture.
