Celebrating Sixty Years at Thoor Ballylee
Gort, Co. Galway
20 June 2025
A special gala evening concert featuring soprano Helen Hancock and accompanist Ramin Haghjoo - celebrating 60 years since WB Yeats's tower at Thoor Ballylee first opened for public visitors under the guidance of the great Mary Hanley.

Thoor Ballylee is a fourteenth-century Hiberno-Norman tower. This magical place is located at the Ballylee River where a newly restored mill wheel turns once more beside the Yeats Tower at Thoor Ballylee, the former Galway home of WB Yeats and his family.

This English language programme for voice and piano includes settings of Yeats poetry by Ina Boyle, Rebecca Clarke and Thomas Dunhill. There will be Irish songs and Moore’s melodies, arias from Handel’s Semele and Lehar’s Merry Widow and audience favourites include Gershwin’s Summertime, Balfe’s I dreamt I dwelled in Marble Halls and a showstopping finale from Jonathan Dove’s opera The Enchanted Pig (featuring a Bridezilla gone bonkers!)
