These paintings document a live curated space. Each private votive offering deposits new intentions and grief memories there, changing and rearranging the space. The faded Virgin statues choke beneath the loaded layers of slowly decomposing detritus; rosaries, scapulas, peeling laminated memorial cards. Lovingly left, these ritual deposits fade into collective memory along with memories of the dead they commemorate. These paintings comment on motherhood, mortality and wonder at the trace memories we leave behind. This project is kindly supported by the Arts Council Agility Award.
