Churches, Abbeys and Monasteries

For the viewing of ancient ecclesiastical ruins, people can stop in the village of Killahan, which is located in County Kerry, just 14km north of Tralee. There, the ruins of a 7th-century church known as Tonaknock Abbey still stand. It was a collegiate church built for the Canon Regular and included a centre for the education of its priests. It continued to operate until 1600.

On the grounds, visitors will also enjoy seeing a 9th-century Celtic High Cross thought to mark the burial place of a bishop.
